WMS for fulfillment service providers: what matters when choosing

A warehouse management system for fulfillment works for many customers at the same time. These criteria separate a suitable system from one you have to work around every day.

Multi-client capability first

Every merchant is a separate client: own items, own stock, own rules, own billing. A WMS that separates clients only by item prefixes makes every report and every stocktake laborious.

Pallets and parcels in one stock

Many customers want both: pallets to retail and parcels to end customers. If that requires two systems or two stocks, the figures never add up.

Batches, shelf life and serial numbers

Food, pet food, cosmetics or spare parts need batches and best-before dates, often with the rule “first expired, first out” (FEFO). The system has to observe this itself during picking, not the employee.

Integrations decide on new customers

A new merchant brings their shop, their marketplaces and their inventory management. How quickly they are connected often decides the contract. Ask every WMS provider which systems can be connected out of the box, what a new integration costs and how long it takes.

Checklist for selection

  • Real client separation with separate rights per customer
  • Pallets and parcels from one stock
  • Batches, BBD and FEFO in picking
  • Multiple sites in one system
  • Ready-made integrations with shops, marketplaces, ERP and carriers
  • Customer portal under your brand
  • Billing of additional services per customer

And if your WMS is to stay?

Not every fulfiller needs a new warehouse system. If what is mainly missing is integrations, portal and billing, X-Sitter CONNECT in front of the existing system is enough. Anyone starting from scratch or working with Excel today takes the X-Sitter WMS, CONNECT is included in it.
